A senior Pakistani official announced Thursday that the enemy has launched "a guerrilla war" across the country, shortly after Taliban militants carried out a new wave of coordinated suicide attacks targeting Pakistan's government buildings.

A car bomb ripped through a residential building used by government employees yesterday in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar, killing a child, AFP reported. It was the fifth militant assault in Pakistan in 24 hours.

Earlier Thursday, while Taliban militants stormed three buildings of security forces in Lahore in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province and bombed a police station earlier in the northwest Kohat, at least 40 people, including policemen, bombers and civilians, were killed, according to official figures.

Between 9 and 10 am, gunmen armed with suicide vests and grenades stormed the Federal Investigation Agency branch in Lahore, plus a police training school and a commando academy on the city's outskirts.

Another suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into Saddar Police Station in Kohat Thursday morning, killing eight people, including three policemen, and injuring 16 others in the attack, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.
