A senior Taliban commander was killed as Afghan and NATO-led troops struck his hideout outside Helmand provincial capital Lashkar Gah, a press release issued by Helmand's provincial administration on Saturday said.

"Known as Mohammad Yar and responsible for Taliban activities in Lashkar Gah bazaar and organizing suicide and roadside bombings outside Lashkar Gah, was killed Friday afternoon in air raids of NATO-led troops," the press release added.

NATO-led forces, however, in a statement earlier said that the military alliance in conjunction with Afghan forces detained Taliban commander Mullah Janan Andewahl along with two insurgents in the southern Uruzgan province on March 5, but the Taliban militants who are facing mounting pressure since mid February in Marja and other districts of the troubled Helmand province have yet to make comment.
