Two car bombs struck a police station and a crowded area in the city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province, causing undetermined casualties on Wednesday, a provincial police source said.
A suicide bomber drove his explosive rigged car to the entrance of the al-Zuhour police station in northern Mosul in the morning, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Separately, a car bomb parked at the busy area of Dawassa in central Mosul detonated also in the morning, the source said.
The source, who cited initial police reports, has no details about casualties.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has been a stronghold of insurgent groups and al-Qaida fighters in the war-torn country.
Nineveh province has been the scene of major security crackdowns by US troops and Iraqi security forces to uproot the insurgency which erupted shortly after the US-led invasion in 2003.
