Eurozone jobless peaks
In the 16 eurozone nations, 15.09 million people were unemployed in July – the seasonally-adjusted rate of 9.5 percent marking a watershed last seen in May 1999, the Eurostat agency said yesterday.
Analysts also warned of a further deterioration in the labor market.
Japan autos halt decline
Japan's auto industry saw fresh signs of a budding recovery yesterday with domestic vehicle sales showing the first year-on-year increase in 13 months.
The Japan Automobile Dealers Association said 198,265 new cars, trucks and buses were sold last month, a 2.3 percent increase on August 2008.
Airlines lost $2b in Q2
Over 50 global airlines lost $2.021 billion during the second quarter, bringing industry losses for the first half to $6 billion, IATA said yesterday.
The association had earlier forecast that losses for the full year would reach $9 billion.
