Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said the country needs to act on lessons learned from the devastating tsunami on Sept. 29.
A total of 143 people were confirmed dead in Samoa with six others still missing.
Malielegaoi said everyone in the country has seen the terrible devastation wrought by the tsunami, Radio New Zealand International reported on Friday.
He said the country owes it to those who lost their lives to become more vigilant and take every measure possible to avoid further loss of life.
Malielegaoi added that if the country takes to heart and acts on the lessons from the disaster, the loss of those who died will not have been in vain.
